1. Age / âge 23
2. Hometown / ville Coquitlam
3. Instrument Bassoon
5. Why did you choose your instrument / Pourquoi avez-vous choisi cet instrument ? I chose my instrument because the first piece of classical music I heard was In the Hall of the Mountain King," in which the bassoon has the low solo at the beginning. This was a piece of music that my Dad was always humming, and that I recognized from my childhood. I knew instantly that the instrument playing the solo at the beginning of this piece was the instrument that I would like to play."
6. What are your professional goals? / Décrivez quelques-unes de vos ambitions professionnelles. I would like to finish my Master's degree, and then get a doctorate in Music Performance. I would like to eventually end up teaching at the university level.
What are your interests outside classical music / Avez-vous d’autres intérêts à part la musique classique ? I enjoy improvising, in jazz or non-jazz idioms. I also enjoy collaborating with colleagues, especially in small ensembles where we can play each others' music and jam on popular tunes. I am also very fascinated with cellular biology.
Who is your favourite classical musician? / Quel est votre artiste (classique) préféré ? Currently, my favourite classical artist is Kathleen McLean, my bassoon teacher. I also really love Fraser Jackson, and Susan Nigro, two of my favourite contrabassoonists.
What has recently played on your Mp3? / Qu’écoutez-vous ces jours-ci sur votre Mp3? Unfortunately, I do not own an iPod.
What is there about you that you think people might be surprised to know? / Y a-t-il quelque chose à votre propos qui est un peu surprenant ou hors de l’ordinaire? I also play flute and saxophone. I took cellular biology and organic chemistry in the third year of my undergraduate degree in music performance, and got an A in both classes because I enjoyed them so much. I would love to get my teaching certificate.
