As the Edges of Canada takes NYO Canada to a number of parts of the country we have been to previously, we are excited to perform at the Yukon Arts Centre in Whitehorse for the very first time in our 50+ year history.
Since 1992, the Yukon Arts Centre has been the territory’s premier performing arts venue, with spaces dedicated to many disciplines that include music, theatre, visual arts, and dance. With a mandate to be a model for the development of the arts in the North, the YAC has increasingly become a major presenter for the arts in Canada. Most of these performances take place on the YAC Mainstage, a 428 capacity space that boasts outstanding acoustics and top-of-the-line technical support. To date, the stage has played host to many types of performers that include touring dance companies, TV shoots, and solo acoustic musicians. On a music level alone, the mainstage has hosted acts such as Blue Rodeo, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and David Myles.
When surveying our 2017 orchestra, our concert in Whitehorse is the one that the majority of our musicians are looking forward to playing the most. Given the historical nature of our tour and first-time visit to the territory, it’s likely that our August 10th concert will be something that our musicians will remember for the years to come.
